Three Dimensional Flashcards
Sep 4, 2025
One of the coolest parts of Phrasing is something I've come to think of as three dimensional flashcards. If all flashcards are one dimensional (operate across time), then Phrasing's second dimension is how it can move and change across each word in the Expression.
The coolest dimension though is the third dimension.
The way I use Phrasing is sometimes I just want to catch up on reviews. This is almost like mindless scrolling. I don't read the descriptions, I don't open up the shapes, I don't ask the LLM questions - I just try to learn words and go about my day.
However, other times, I read every word of every description. I open up the shapes and try to parse the Expression out. I look at related words, read definitions, ask questions — really dive deep.
This scales with my mood. Maybe I'll parse a couple expressions, get overwhelmed, and just do mindless reviews for a bit. Then I'll notice something interesting, and dive deep. Phrasing is there at all times to match my engagement.
I've done 200 reviews in 40 minutes, and I've done 40 reviews in 2 hours. It all just depends on how much energy, focus, and interest I have on any given day.
