Are we still doing phrasing?
My personal favorite feature of Phrasing is it's ability to treat Expressions as collections of phrases. It makes it trivial to understand even the most intricate, complicated Expressions. It unlocks unparalleled review performance, and it is the closest to how we eventually internalize a language
In Phrasing, there are actually two different phrasings:
Universal phrasing
The universal phrasing is used to highlight phrases in purple across translations as you tap around. These are specifically optimized for internationalization, segmenting primarily be semantics and structure.
Local phrasing
The local phrasing is used to explain a given translation. This is the default phrasing you'll see when you click on the shapes icon. You'll notice in these screenshots that the grouping is different, do to the fixed phrase 毎日少しずつ in the beginning.
Each of the local phrasings comes with 3 different translations:
Word-by-word translations: these are shown inline underneath every word.
Natural translation: each explanation will start with the phrase, followed by it's most natural translation.
Literal translation: each phrase explanation will contain a third, distinct, literal translation in the header row.
The goal is to give you as many different perspectives on each phrase. For most phrases, this is way overkill; but when you need it, it's indispensable.
Phrase view settings
Select and unselect any word while in the phrase view, and you'll see the settings for the phrase view. Here you can see the explanations of the universal phrases, see some expression-level explanations, or re-phrase the Expression
