Extracting vs bookmarking

There are seemingly two ways to add Expressions to your library: Extracting and Bookmarking. This is a bit of a misnomer; when you extract an Expression, we automatically bookmark it for you.

Extracting

Extracting is the whole process of analyzing, breaking into words and phrases, connecting to the language graph, generating audio, aligning across languages, explaining, and prioritizing. There are hundreds of steps to each Extraction, one of which is bookmarking the Expression for the user.

Once an Expression has been extracted, it can be bookmarked by other users at no charge. Currently, there is no public sharing method in place—but we are working on it!

Bookmarking

Bookmarks are used to determine whether you want to actively study something. You can bookmark expressions from other users, or unbookmark expressions you're currently learning to no longer see them in reviews.

Unbookmarking

We save all the Expressions you've bookmarked, so you can safely unbookmark Expressions (including those created by others). They'll remain accessible on your profile should you want to reference or study them again.
